In this episode, I read a story that an anonymous guest wrote in about her experience with abortion. She shares about when she found out she was pregnant, how she felt, how she tried to work through her tough feelings, but ultimately chose the decision of getting an abortion. She shares her raw and real feelings on this topic.*

Emma took a pregnancy test in a Walmart bathroom. Two lines popped up. The test confirmed what she already knew. She was, in fact, pregnant. She let the guy know and the next week they went to a doctor appointment. Once again, it was confirmed that she was pregnant. Emma felt all of the emotions, including sadness. She was unsure if this is what she wanted. She had only been dating this guy for a month and knew this kind of life was not what she wanted for her third child. Emma let him know that she was thinking about abortion and he was very upset.

Emma continued to work, but it became harder and harder every day because the sickness was so bad. One lunch shift, she fell asleep and woke up late. A co-worker wrote her up and Emma ended up walking out. She just quit her job. Now what?

Emma - Quote

Emma went to get a foot zone to try and get some clarity. Before she left, the lady told her to wear each of the options and see which one felt best. Emma did just that. She told herself she was going to keep the baby, bought baby clothes and told her children. “If they get excited, maybe I will, too.” But she didn’t. Emma still felt uncomfortable with that outcome. Emma decided to make an appointment for an abortion. She also broke up with the guy.

Emma reached out to her ex a lot during this time. He was always there for her and she needed him. They debated whether or not they should get back together. He said he would raise the baby as his own. Emma cancelled the abortion appointment. The more and more she thought about what she was doing, she still was not okay with the decision to keep the baby. She thought about what others would think and having to share the baby with the father.

Emma considered adoption. She reached out to a friend and that friend offered to adopt the baby and pay for everything. When Emma asked the father what he thought of that idea, he quickly shut her down saying that if she didn’t want the baby, he did. She contacted another friend who opened her eyes. “You’ve been telling me what everyone else wants, but what does Emma want?”

Emma made another abortion appointment. She knew that she needed to make this decision quickly because she was running out of time. The appointment was for that Friday. The whole way to the appointment, Emma was calm and at peace with her decision. Emma describes what happened once she got there, what she noticed around her and her feelings at that time.
