In this episode, I chat with Heather from @divinelysensitive on IG. She shares what it’s like to be a highly sensitive person and how she deals with it herself, as well as with her children. Heather also talks about different types of empaths (I’m really curious – which type are you??) and intertwined throughout are ways to find beauty in life.*
When Heather was 7 years old, her parents separated and divorced. She was always very sensitive and that made her feel different. People would tell her “oh, you’re crying again?! Why are you so dramatic?”
In school, Heather really loved theater. She wanted to become an actor because she loved it so much. As she got older, she realized the reason why she loved it so much was because she got to be someone else. She didn’t have to be Heather.
After Heather’s second child was born, she started to really spiral. She feel deep into anxiety and depression. People were basically dismissing her saying it was just because she had two kids and little sleep. Luckily, she recognized it was not that simple and asked for help. From there, she was able to define her triggers and figure out ways to deal with her sensitivity. She then began her own business helping other women to do the same.

“I used to dislike being sensitive. I thought it made me weak. But take away that single trait and you take away the very essence of who I am. You take away my conscious, my ability to empathize, my intuition, my creativity, my deep appreciation of the little things, my vivid inner life, my keen awareness to other’s pain and my passion for it all.”
