In this episode, I talk to Emilie about having type 1 diabetes and being a single mom.*
Emilie grew up being super close with her brothers, sister and parents. They did everything together. She was very involved in sports and an avid hunter.
((Saturated may not have been the right word. I just couldn’t think of anything else in the moment.))
A church going girl decided to go to the NFR with some friends. She wanted to be carefree and just didn’t have a care in the world. She met the man who would later be the father of her son that night. This was her first serious boyfriend. Everything was going so good and they were having the time of their life..
Then a few months later, the red flags started to pop up. But she chose to ignore them. Her dad is a therapist, so she knew what to look out for. She thought she was invincible. “If I don’t see it, my dad will see it.” She knew the warning signs. The things he was saying were no big deal. There was no control issues here. No manipulation… Or was there?
Her mom and brother confronted her about what was going on, but she couldn’t choose. She loved them and she loved him. The sides could not be combined. She knew what she needed to do, but she felt stuck.
Then it all went down. She said no and he did it anyway. A month or so later, those two pink lines showed up on a pregnancy test.
Emilie has raised her son with her sister and parents. She never imagined that her life would be like this.
She now has trust issues (totally understandable!) when dating. She feels like she can’t open up. She wants all fellow prospects to listen to this, alone. 😉
We talk about the struggles of being a single, working mom. What do you do when your kid is sick, but you’re at work? Who goes to get him? Who takes care of him? When they’re sick, they just want their mom at home.
((I get a little heated. Hahaha. So sorry!))
